This past weekend Tahitian dance group Te Varua Ori competed in the annual International Tahitian Ori dance competition, also known as ITO; held at Pearson Park in Anaheim, California. Twenty-one Te Varua Ori dancers were entered in the competition, sixteen made it into the final round, and three dancers were awarded 2nd and 3rd place in three categories.  Though not all the competitors placed, each dancer represented the group in which they came from very well. Great job out there T.V.O.!

It’s been about two years since I’ve seen one of my best friends, Diana.  It seems that every time I’ve been able to meet up and catch up with what’s going on in her wonderful life she is either moving, getting married, or having a baby.  Like I said, I hadn’t seen her in two years so who knew what crazy news she would  be sharing with me this time around.  The only thing that I was sure of this time was that I would finally meet her daughter Lilly.  Diana and I planned a picnic at English Springs Park  in the city of Chino Hills where we grew up.  That morning we met up, packed our picnic basket (or grocery bags) with our lunches and headed for the park.  It was a bright, warm day perfect for a picnic under the trees and chasing a two year old around as she explored what the park had to offer.

I learned a lot about little Lilly.  She is very smart, playful, and sweet.  Not to mention absolutely fearless.  A pack of geese decided they wanted to join our picnic.  They insisted on sticking around for quite a bit so Diana and I panicked to get our things packed up to save Lilly from the possibility of a terrible experience.  As we packed up, I turned around and noticed Lilly standing within inches of the geese, with her hand out offering them a piece of bread.  It was crazy, I swear Diana and I had one of those telepathic conversations.  With one look into each other’s eyes she knew to get Lilly out and I knew to block and make sure that crazy goose wouldn’t go for Lilly’s hand; we were on a mission.  Though the mission only lasted about 1.026875 seconds, it was a success.  Other than the geese incident,  it was great finally meeting Lilly and catching up with Diana.  Oh, and did I mention Diana’s expecting another baby, she’s due in January…
